Alves: "The most important thing is the three points”

www.fcbarcelona.cat

The players admitted after the game that they’d had to dig deep after Seville had hit back with their two second half goals, but stressed the importance of the win and the vital three points.

Dani Alves reckoned that despite the last 20 minutes: “the most important is the three points. Seville got back into the game, but the players showed we know how to suffer and are capable of reacting”.

As to next week’s game, Alves insisted: “we have to keep our feet on the ground. We know we have 90 minutes against us and that they will be fighting to stay in the league, but if we play as we have been in this last part of the season, we should enjoy the game”.

Below are the reactions of the rest of the players:

Xavi:

"We suffered more than we should have, we should have won it 0-5. It was one of those games where we should have run in the goals and not have had to worry, but I guess the main thing is that in the end we took the three points”.

"We’re happy and proud that it’s the home grown players who are making the difference. The youth scheme works really well and you can see that in the success we achieve”.

"We would all prefer to win the title at the Nou Camp – it’s great to celebrate at home, but first we have to go out and win the game. We’ve now got everything in our favour and that’s something we would certainly have taken at the start of the season”.

"This was a big game – we knew Madrid wouldn’t slip up”.

Valdés:

"There were just some isolated moves from Seville, but we were in control and the team also had their chances after Seville’s goals”.

"I don’t care where we win it, I just want to win the league. Now we have a golden opportunity to win at home and we have to go for it”.

"This was a big step against a tough team”.

"The fans are happy and proud, but we still have a game to play and we have to be focussed on winning that”.

Pedro:

"We lost concentration twice and they took advantage of that, but even though they came at us and their fans were really behind them, we held on and controlled the rest of the game”.

"We had so many chances. We could have scored many more”.

"There’s one game left, but we knew tonight’s was so important”.

Flight home OK
Despite worries that the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud which had closed some Spanish airports earlier in the day would disrupt the squad’s travel plans, Barca’s flight was unaffected and the players returned home on Saturday night. Guardiola has given his players a couple of days off and the next training session will be on Tuesday at 11.00 at the Ciudad Deportiva. Pinto and Bojan both took drug tests after the Seville game.
