The Barca President, Joan Laporta confirmed the club’s interest in signing the Valencia striker David Villa today, revealing: “we are in negotiations and things are going well. We are confident that this will be sorted soon”.
With the league title confirmed on Sunday, Barca have turned their focus to summer signings for
next season. After extending Gabi Milito’s contract for another year, President Laporta today
confirmed that the club were in negotiations to sign the Valencia striker David Villa.
David Villa
Villa is 28 and scored 21 goals with Valencia in the league this
season, confirming his position as Spain’s leading striker. Laporta told reporters:
“we’ve started talks with Valencia, things are going well and we hope to reach an
agreement as soon as possible. There’s no date been fixed yet, but we’ll sign him when
it’s best for our club”.
Cesc Fàbregas
The Arsenal captain made it clear last week that if he leaves the
London club, it’ll be for Barca and Laporta commented: “it’s remarkable that a
player should commit himself in this way. If the club technical staff believe we need to make the
extra effort and sign him, we’ll speak to Arsenal”.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Asked about speculation surrounding the Swedish striker who’s
scored 21 goals in his first season with the club, Laporta insisted:”he has a contract with
us and we are satisfied with him”.
Thierry Henry
Joan Laporta also commented on the future of Thierry Henry, who is
currently with the France squad preparing for the World Cup: “he is very popular in the MLS
and there’s a lot of interest in him. We are working on this and will try and reach an
agreement that suits both the club and the player”.
