Of the many remarkable statistics associated to Barça’s amazing season, one of the most outstanding is the fact that Leo Messi scored two or more goals in no fewer than 11 league games.
In Leo Messi’s dream season he has equalled the record for the most goals for the club in one
Liga campaign, the 34 set by Ronaldo Luiz Nazário. These goals have helped him win the European
Golden Boot award, as well as the Spanish Pichichi.
Three league hat-tricks
The Argentinian has taken the match ball home three times, as is the
tradition for anybody able to score three goals. Tenerife, Valencia and Zaragoza were all on the
receiving ends of Messi three-goal sprees, the latter two teams in back-to-back games.
Nine braces
Messi also scored twice in nine encounters. And some of these braces
have proved essential for securing all-important points, such as FCB’s only two against
Almeria (2-2), or the couple he scored at the Riazor to beat Deportivo (1-3).
All kinds of goals
With his good left foot, or his weaker right foot, with his head, after individual runs, from
free kicks, from penalties, and even with his chest. Leo Messi has scored just about every way
possible, showing that not only is he an innate goalscorer, but that he is also hugely inventive
when it comes to using his resources.
