Pedro Rodriguez signed a new deal with the Club on Wednesday that will take him through to 2015.
Pedro travelled back to Barcelona after the Spain squad was given the day off. His current deal
took him through to the end of the 2013-14 season and has now been extended until 2015. His release
clause has been increased from 75 to 90 million euros.
His salary has also been raised to reflect his new weight in the senior squad.
”I’m very happy”
In an exclusive interview with Barca TV and fcbarcelona.cat he told us:
“I’m very happy. I’d like to thank the Board for the support they have given me.
Without Mr Laporta this wouldn’t have been possible. The players will always remember
him”.
"An unrepeatable season"
Looking back over the season, Pedro revealed: “It’s been a very good year.
I’m very happy with a season that will probably be unrepeatable. Everything worked out well
and in the end we secured a very difficult league title”.
A first team regular
In his first full season with the first team, Pedro played 52
competitive games and scored 23 goals – at least one in six different competitions. Pedro
started the season on the subs bench and ended it as a first team regular as well as being included
in Del Bosque’s final Spain squad for the World Cup, scoring his first international goal in
Spain’s 6-0 thrashing of Poland on Tuesday.
Decisive goals
Many of his 23 goals this season have proved to be vital in winning four
trophies – for example the European Super Cup, Real Madrid v Barca, the Champions League
semi-finals and the World Club Cup final.
