From the Spain training camp in South Africa, Carles Puyol and David Villa have congratulated Sandro Rosell on his election to the presidency of FC Barcelona.
Team captain Carles Puyol, in declarations made to the EFE news agency in Potchefstroom, explained:
“I followed the campaign together with my Barca team-mates who are here with the national
squad. We got the news from friends and the internet and I saw the results of the election.
I’d just like to congratulate Sandro on his victory and thank Laporta for the seven years
he’s been the president of FC Barcelona”.
Delighted with high turnout
Carles Puyol stressed the wide margin of victory and also the large
turnout: “The membership have elected him by a wide margin. I hope everything goes well for
the new Board because that’ll mean things are going well for the Club. The most important
thing is that so many people have voted”.
However, Puyol also praised the work done by Joan Laporta since 2003: “The seven years
of Laporta’s mandate have been magnificent. We’ve won a lot of trophies”.
Villa: "Congratulations to the new president"
Barca’s latest signing, David Villa, also passed on his congratulations to
Sandro Rosell: "With the opening match of the World Cup just a couple of days away it’s
difficult to think of anything else but it’s the future of the Club and we have to know
what’s going on”.
"I’ve just arrived and I don’t have the experience of my team-mates. The only
thing I can do from South Africa is congratulate the new president, wish him all the luck in the
world and hope he helps Barca continue to achieve success”.
