Txiki: “the squad’s small? That depends on how you value the youngsters”

Txiki Begiristain isn’t ruling out any new signings before the transfer window closes, but he insisted that the club can call on great reserves of young home grown talent coming up through the academy.
Txiki Begiristain explained: “we are continuing to work at building the best possible
squad”, though he admitted the market was difficult at the moment:“we set our
objectives and then try and reach them, sometimes that’s possible and sometimes it’s
not. If we look at a range of players we have to make sure that they fit in and especially that the
coaches are convinced by them”.
Begiristain also commented that the possible signings of Cesc or Chigrinsky are
“complicated”.
Home grown options
Begiristain was asked if he thought the squad was too small and replied: “that depends
on the value we put on our up and coming youngsters. If we don’t value our home grown players
and the youngsters who’ve been training with the first team squad, then you could say the
squad was small, yes”.
“If we aren’t bringing in more players, it’s because our own youngsters are
coming through well”.
Game time with Barça Atlètic
One of the most important advantages of using the youngsters to back up the main squad for
Txiki is : “if they are our own players, we can also give them game time with Barça
Atlètic”.
