Puyol: “I feel important here”

The Barça has spoken more clearly than ever about his situation at the club. “I am relaxed and my plan is to stay here for many more years” he said, denying that he has any problems with Guardiola and any possible defensive reinforcements.
After winning the Spanish Super Cup, Carles Puyol spoke to TV show El Marcador on Barça TV about
the doubts that have arisen regarding his future at Barça. He believes it is all a lot of fuss
about nothing, saying “I know there’s a lot being said about this, but I’m not
bothered. I feel important here”.
An FCB future
“I have always said that my plan is to stay here for many more years”, said
Puyol, adding that is at Barça where he feels best and that his intention is to help the team.
His contract expires in June 2010. That means it is a
relatively short time before he will be up for reviews, but the player is not overly concerned.
“A year is a long time. What I want to do is train, help the team and the rest will come,
there’s no problem”.
Good understanding with Guardiola
Asked about his reputedly deteriorating relationship with Guardiola, Carles Puyol said there
was truth in the rumours whatsoever. “I have no problem with the boss, not by a long way. We
speak a lot and he knows what I think and I know what he thinks and the truth is, I’m really
happy with it all”.
Need to reinforce
The centre back also considers it perfectly normal that the
club is looking into the idea of bringing in additional defenders, and is only too aware of the way
they needed to improvise last season to cover for missing defenders. “If we want to win
titles that means playing a lot of games, and so we’ll need players” he said.
