Busy weeks ahead for Guardiola’s team

Once the international break is over, Barca face a gruelling 22 days with seven games to play including the start of their campaign to retain the Champions League trophy.


With so many players off on international duty, Guardiola will have little time to prepare his squad, with the majority not expected back in Barcelona till Thursday or Friday this week and a tough three weeks of La Liga and Champions League action ahead.

Trip to Getafe

2009-07-23_GUARDIOLA_06.jpgAfter their successful start against Sporting, Guardiola’s team play their first away game in the league at 18.00 on Saturday when they travel to Getafe, who started their campaign with an impressive 1-4 win at Racing Santander.

Champions League kicks off

The following Wednesday, September 16th, it’s Champions League action, again on the road, as Barca visit Italian Champions Inter Milan for their first Group Stage game.

Three league games in a week

2009-08-23_FCB_-_ATHLETIC_BILBAO_013.JPGThere are three league games the following week, starting with the visit of Atletico Madrid on the weekend of 19th/20th, with the first of this season’s four midweek league fixtures on 23rd against Racing in Santander, followed by a trip to Malaga on the weekend of 26th/27th.

Dynamo first Champions League guests at Nou Camp

The first of this season’s home Champions League games sees Dynamo Kiev visit the Nou Camp on 29th September, with the visit of Almeria wrapping up the gruelling schedule on the following weekend.

Further International break
There’s another international break due after the Almeria game and Barca’s next match is not until October 17th/18th when they visit Mestalla to take on Valencia. After that the fixture list is further complicated by the start of the Spanish Cup.
