Keita: “I always want to do more”
Jaume Marcet
Speaking after training this evening, Seydou Keita told reporters he reckoned that even though he feels he’s playing better than last season, he knows he still has to keep improving.
According to the Mali international, who’s performances since the team returned from their
summer break have been a highlight of the pre and early season,: “I’m better this
season and I think I’ve adapted better to the team’s style of play”.
Ambitious
Keita was on the mark against Sporting and is clearly enjoying a good vein of form,
but he insisted: “I always want to do more and continue learning and I really think that if
you compare my form now to how I was a year ago, there’s a great improvement”.
World Cup exit
After their 1-1 draw with Benin, Mali are no longer able to reach the World Cup
finals and Keita commented: “you’ve got to show your worth on the field and we just
didn’t do enough to make the World Cup. I’d have loved to have gone to the World Cup,
but it wasn’t to be this time”.Argentina are also struggling for their ticket to South
Africa, but Keita dismissed any criticism of his team mate Leo Messi: “he’s the best
player in the world. It’s always hard when you lose a dame, but there are still games to play
and I’m sure that Argentina will make it”
African Cup of Nations
Mali will be taking part in the African Nations Cup in the New Year and
Keita again explained that he would be trying to stay with the club as long as possible before
setting off to represent his country, whilst insisting: “it’s quite a while off yet and
it’s still too soon to be worrying about that”.
Iniesta
Seydou Keita has been filling in during Andres Iniesta’s injury lay off and he was full
of stage for the Spanish midfielder: “he’s very good, a very important player for us.
It’s always better for a team to be able to count on a player of his quality”.
