After being given medical clearance during the week, Andrés Iniesta got his reward today; playing in a top flight game. The mid-fielder received an ovation at the when he came on at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
He came on in the 58th minute, when the score was still 0-0. It was the first time he’d
played after a three-month absence. His last game had been the Champions League final in Rome.
Applause
Iniesta’s popularity in the football world was clear when he came
on to the pitch against Getafe to an ovation from the crowd. Barca’s number ‘8’
assured us that “the applause is something that fills you inside. People wish you the best,
and for me the best is to on the pitch”.
Ibra-Iniesta
The game also gave Iniesta his first chance to play alongside Zlatan
Ibrahimovic. The mid-fielder thought that “Ibra is spectacular. He impresses in every game,
and we’re getting to know each other, and he’s feeling more at home”.
Ibra makes his mark
Zlatan Ibrahimovic played the full 90 minutes against the Madrid side, scoring the first goal. He
acknowledged it hadn’t been an easy game, “but I’m happy. We played with
intelligence. Personally, I’m still not at 100%, but the most important is to play”.
Already thinking about the next game against his former side Inter Milan, Ibrahimovic
admitted “it’s a special match for me. I’ve got great memories from my time
there”.
