Carles Puyol produced a captain's performance against Dynamo Kiev as he led from the back to help steer FC Barcelona to victory over Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and explained that enjoyed the adulation of the fans.
"I was grateful that fans chanted my name," he told Barça TV. "I have always had a great
relationship with the supporters in Camp Nou. Physically I felt great and despite my age I will not
be retiring just yet. I said last season that I have still ten more years left in me," he joked.
No fouls
The Blaugrana skipper played the entire 90 minutes in the centre of the
home team's defence in Camp Nou and won back possession on no less than 15 occasions and all that
without conceding a single foul. The back four were all solid with Dani Alves, Éric Abidal and
Puyol's partner in the middle Gerard Piqué all standing out.
Passing ability
Puyol's display also saw him clear the ball 19 times from in and around Barça's penalty area
while showed his control and calm in on the ball with 68 passes completed and just one that was
not.
