Maxwell: “We’re not perfect”
Jesús Carrillo
Brazilian defender Maxwell insists that the team has to keep improving. The former Ajax and Inter man still senses room for that to happen.
“We are not perfect and we have to work hard to reach perfection, and to do that we have to
keep working day by day and remember that what we have achieved so far means for nothing when we go
out for our next match” said Maxwell Scherrer in the Ciudad Deportiva pressroom.
The boss
Speaking about his manager, Maxwell said “his vision of the game is fundamental, its
very good, he prepares games well. But the most important thing is how he tells the players what
they should do in each game. For example, he always tells me whether the striker I’ll be
marking likes to play the ball on the ground or if he prefers long balls, and always looks for
balance and space”.
“I have a long way to go”
The full back was also self-critical. “I have to play more and if
I do I’ll get better, because I’m never happy with what I have done. I always know I
can do better”.
Maxwell is settling in well in the city. “My family and I are adapting well to the
city. Everybody helps us and that’s nice and we are slowly getting used to Barcelona and the
club”.
As for his team mates, Maxwell says he has never been with such a talented group of players.
“Messi surprises me every day” he added.
Abidal and ‘Ibra’
Two players are being spoken about a lot these days. On his ‘rival’ for the left
back berth, Éric Abidal, Maxwell only had words of praise. “’Abi’ is winning his
place, he’s the first choice, what I have to do is always be ready for when the boss thinks I
should go on in his place. That’s my obligation”.
And as for his former Ajax and Inter team mate, he said “Zlatan left Ajax at the right
time, and the same happened when he left Turin and Milan. I think Zlatan will give a lot to Barça
and Barça will give a lot to Zlatan. He is getting better very fast and that’s good news for
everybody”.
La Liga, Real Madrid and Sevilla
Maxwell doesn’t think the League “is just about Barça and Madrid … we know
there are other big teams and they are showing that they too can hit the top”.
As for Real Madrid’s loss to Sevilla on Sunday, he reckons “Sevilla have a lot of
quality players and losing there is no cause for alarm”.
