Mixed fortunes for Mali and Brazil
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Brazil lost 2-1 away to Bolivia while Mali beat Sudan 1-0 at home in the last two World Cup qualifying games of the weekend. However, there was little at stake for either Alves or Keita.
Barça’s Dani Alves played the full 90 minutes of Brazil’s defeat away to
Bolivia in La Paz’s Estadio Hernando Siles. With Brazil already through to the finals in
South Africa, Dunga made a few changes to his regular line-up. Dani Alves occupied the right of
midfield and enjoyed a good performance, including hitting the woodwork. However, Bolivia were
deserved winners thanks to goals from Olivares (min. 9) and Marcelo Moreno (min. 30). Nilmar pulled
one back for the visitors (min. 69) but Brazil couldn’t muster enough danger to clock up
their tenth win of the qualifying phase.
Mali and Keita beat Sudan (1-0)
Seydou Keita also played the full 90 minutes of Mali v Sudan (1-0). The only goal of the
match was scored by Sevilla’s Frederic Kanouté in the 89th minute. However, it was a hollow
victory as Mali are already mathematically out of the World Cup finals.
La Cultural Leonesa draw with Racing del Ferrol (1-1)
Barça’s opponents in the R16 of the Spanish Cup, La Cultural Leonesa, only managed a draw
against Racing del Ferrol in their Second B league match. Catalan forward Jito scored his
side’s single goal, which leaves them second from bottom with 6 points.
