Busquets: “We are the team to beat”

Edgar Fornós

FC Barcelona is the only team with a one hundred per cent record in La Liga and Sergio Busquets said “we are the team to beat and it is normal that other teams want us to drop points”.

After two more wins for Spain in the World Cup qualifiers, Sergio Busquets has spoken about Barça’s game on Saturday against Valencia. The Catalan said “it’s normal for people to want the league to be evenly matched and for other teams to get into winning ways to make the championship more competitive. Now we are the team to beat, because nobody has managed to beat us until now”.

Villa doubts

There being doubts as to whether David Villa will be fit in time to play at Mestalla, Sergio said “for us it’ll be better if he doesn’t play because he’s a very dangerous striker. But it is also nice to go out and face full strength teams, because that ,makes it all the more attractive”.

Valencia and Mestalla - dangerous

2009-10-15_ENTRENO_11.JPGSergio Busquets has already got experience of playing away to Valencia. “Mestalla is a very difficult ground because the people get right on top of you and create a lot of pressure. Last year we had to sweat to get a draw. Valencia have managed to keep hold of some very strong attacking players like Pablo Hernández, Mata, Silva and Villa”.

Criticism for Messi?

The midfielder doesn’t understand why “the Argentinian people and press criticise Messi, because he has always given everything for the national team. You just have to look at last summer when he insisted on going to the Olympic games to play for his country. I’d like to think this criticism has just been because of the negative vibes when Argentina were almost not going to qualify for the World Cup”.
