Bojan back after 52 days
Roger Bogunyà
One of the best pieces of news from Mestalla for FC Barcelona was the return of Bojan Krkic, who hadn’t played since the game with Sporting on the first weekend of competition.
It was in the 77th minute that Josep Guardiola decided to make his first change. Off went Pedro and
on went Bojan, for his first appearance in 52 days. That is the time that has passed since he tore
fibres in the central adductor of his left thigh. "I felt fine” he said afterwards. “I
have been training hard for days, but it was important to get back to playing. I felt very
comfortable”.
Left wing
Bojan Krkic played on the left wing, with Messi moving into the centre
and Iniesta playing on the right. It was after he came on that Barça played some of their best
football, closing a tired Valencia in their own half. This was the same role Bojan had played
against Sporting, where he had opened the scoring with a header.
Participative
In his 18 minutes on the pitch, Bojan tried everything. But like his colleagues he struggled
time and again with the brick wall of Valencia’s solid defending. But he did make a few
dribbling runs, one of which was particularly useful, and 9 of his 11 passes were good. Bojan is
back.
"We are never happy with a draw"
On the 0-0 final result, Bojan Krkic said FC Barcelona "are never happy with a draw … but
judging by the way the game went, we can accept it as a good result. The most important thing is
that we didn’t lose.” The draw meant Barça were unable to celebrate their best ever
start to a league campaign, and Bojan was sincere about things. "You have to say that when you have
the chance to break records like that, it is a pity when you don’t manage it. But we just
have to keep looking ahead."
