Barça dominating the 'pichichi'
Anna Segura
Ibrahimovic has shot to the top of the goal scorers’ ranking here in Spain and is tied with David Villa on seven goals. Messi, with six and Keita, with five, complete a list dominated by Barça players.
There’s plenty of competition to be the top scorer in the Spanish league. After eight matches
there are already several contenders for the title of ‘pichichi’, or top scorer, and
it’s clear that Barça will play an important part in this particular contest. At present
Barça has three players in the top ten and is the only club to have more than one representative.
Ibra, number one
Thanks to his brace of goals against Zaragoza, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (a
goal every 77 minutes) now heads the ranking of goal scorers with seven goals, tied with
Valencia’s David Villa (a goal every 85 minutes). Leo Messi is in third place with six, the
same as Pandiani (Osasuna).
First hat-trick for Keita
Meanwhile, Seydou Keita scored the first hat trick of his career against
Zaragoza and has leaped into fifth place with five goals. Keita, who kept Saturday’s match
ball, has already overtaken his personal tally of four goals last season.
Some statistics
The match between Barça and Zaragoza threw up a range of interesting facts and figures:
► This is the first time this season that Barça has hit six in one match. They did so
five times last season – the last one being the 2-6 demolition of Real Madrid in the
Bernabeu.
► Barça is top of the table with a three-point lead over second placed Real Madrid.
Barça has scored the most goals (23) and conceded the fewest (4).
► The last Barça player to score a hat trick was Leo Messi. It was against Atlético
Madrid in the Calderón in R16 of the Spanish Cup (1-3).
► Chygrynskiy returned to the team on Saturday after missing nearly a month through
injury. Assistant coach Tito Vilanova was also back on the bench after serving a two-match
suspension.
► Valdés is leading the way in the Zamora Trophy (for fewest goals conceded) with 4
goals in 8 matches, ahead of Palop (Sevilla, 4 in 6 matches) and Casillas (Real Madrid) with 6 in 8
matches.
