Captain Carles Puyol has signed a new contract this morning with FC Barcelona. It ties him to the club until June 30, 2013. That is an extension of three years on his current contract with Barça.
A week after it was announced that Carles Puyol would be staying at Barça, the captain, at 31 years
of age, has signed for a further three years. He signed at XXXX in the club offices, and is now
officially committed to the club until 2013.
The rescission clause in his new contract has been set at 10 million euros, as long as he
plays 60% of the games in a season.
“There is nowhere quite like here”
Carles Puyol has told Barça TV and www.fcbarcelona.cat that he is delighted to have
extended his terms with FC Barcelona: “I am very happy that the club, the staff and the
players have shown their confidence in me. The fans have also played a key role in this decision to
stay because they have always supported me through good moments and bad. There is nowhere quite
like here” said the captain.

Puyol shortlisted for FIFA World Player
The Catalan is one of the six Barça players with an option to win the award handed out by FIFA each
year. “I head this morning that I am a nominee. It’s not something that bothers me all
that much because for me it’s the titles we win as a team rather than individual ones that
are really important. I think Leo Messi is the big favourite, and he fully deserves to get the
prize” said the defender
