Pedro: “The boss is giving me plenty of confidence”
Jordi Clos
The Canary Islander is coming into his own and scoring goals. But the next month or so is going to be a big test, starting on Saturday against Athletic.
With eight goals already in his account, few had expected so much so soon from Pedro Rodríguez
“The boss is giving me plenty of confidence. He has taught me a lot, especially about
tactical positioning. He is a brilliant coach who should stay here for many more years”, he
said at today’s press conference. On his recent goalscoring prowess, he said “I’m
lucky to be on a good run thanks to my team mates”.
First up, Athletic Club
Pedro could play a key role in forthcoming Barça games. “We have a
very demanding fixture list, starting with Athletic, which will be very difficult … they are
a very aggressive team, and very hard to beat at their ground. We’ll have to play well and
get what would be an important win.” He has already experienced a goal at the Cathedral.
“I have fond memories of the Super Cup. I was happy to get that goal and to win the
match” he remembered.
Inter, Madrid and Club World Cup
After San Mamés, Barça have a fascinating end to the year ahead, with
games against Inter and Madrid and the Club World Cup. Pedro knows how decisive the game with the
Italian champions is going to be, and in the game with Madrid “it would be a dream to score
… but it will be hard game with or without Cristiano Ronaldo … We have to be relaxed
going in to this stage of the season. We have to concentrate and hard and be fully fit”.
Then comes the Club World Cup, a tournament Pedro Rodríguez is thoroughly looking forward to,
and where he could become the first Barça player ever to score in six competitions in the same
season. “That would be nice, historic. I am really happy to be going and I’ll be
happier still if we win the title”.
