Abidal: “It’s my best week since I’ve been in Barcelona“

Eric Abidal is delighted by the way things have gone this week. He’s overcome injury and flu to play a major part in the victories over Inter and Real Madrid and told reporters on Monday: “It’s my best week since I’ve been in Barcelona”.
The French international fullback was a happy man in the press room today. He came back from injury
and illness in record time to help the team beat Inter and Real Madrid and still found time to
extend his contract with the Club.
Almost his first goal
Eric Abidal is not a born goal scorer so it’s no surprise that he
has yet to score for Barça. However, against Real Madrid he almost broke his duck in the 75th
minute but his shot drifted narrowly wide: “It would have been good to score. It would have
been a gift for the week”.
The icing on the cake
It was an eventful week for Abidal. Before the match against Athletic
Club, doctors confirmed that he had a muscle problem that made him doubtful for the Real Madrid
match – and to make matters worse he also had flu. Beyond all expectations he recovered in
time to play on Tuesday against Inter and then on Sunday against Real Madrid. That’s why he
told reporters today. “It’s my best week since I’ve been in Barcelona”.
The next three points
As for the match against Real Madrid, Eric Abidal admitted. “The matches against Madrid
are important. It’s three more points”. And now he wants to see the team continuing on
the same path: “We have to carry on like this and try and win the next match”.
