Seville in the Cup

Barca have been drawn against Seville in the last 16 of the Spanish Cup. If they win the tie, they will play the winners of the València-Deportivo clash.


sevilla-fcb-copa_x1x.jpgThe draw for the last 16 was made this lunchtime at the Ciudad Deportiva de Las Rozas (Madrid) and sets up a fascinating tie between Barca and Seville. The first leg will be played at the Nou Camp on January 6th, with the return a week later at the Sánchez Pizjuán.

València-Deportivo winners next

The winners of the Seville-Barca tie were drawn to play either Valencia or Deportivo in the quarter finals, with the first leg set for January 20th and the return, at the Nou Camp or in Seville, seven days later.

Should Barca reach the semi finals, they could face Màlaga, Getafe, Rayo Vallecano or Mallorca, with the first leg at the Nou Camp

Recent meeting

Barca and Sevilla have played 11 times in the Cup, the most recent meeting was in the last 16 in the 2007/08 season when Rijkaard's team drew 1-1 in Seville and 0-0 at the Nou Camp to go through on the away goals rule.

Guardiola: “It's a very attractive tie”
Speaking in a press conference this lunchtime, boss Josep Guardiola reckoned: “it's a very attractive tie. There's time yet for us to think about the tie – we also play them in the league around that time. There'll be some good football”.
