Yaya Touré and Seydou Keita have been named by the Confederation of African Football as among the five nominations for the African Player of the Year for 2009.
FC Barcelona's brilliant season has seen its stars win several individual awards and now the
midfield duo is up for another gong. The winner of the trophy will be announced at a presentation
ceremony on February 25.
Other Nominations
Along with Touré and Keita, Chelsea have contributed two of the nominees with Didier Drogba
and Michael Essien being named while Samuel Eto'o's success in the Barça team last term has also
seen him named.
Blaugrana winners
Eto'o is the only player to have won the award while playing for Barça
and has also won it on the most occasions having been seen as the best African player in 2003, 2004
and 2005. Former Blaugrana star Emmanuel Amunike also lifted the prize in 1994 when playing for
Sporting Lisbon.
