All won, all to be won again

Edgar Fornós

After their record breaking six titles in 2009, Barca have one clear objective for 2010 –to keep on winning- and over the next few months they will be looking to equal last year’s marvellous season in the Champions League and Spanish League and Cup.

2009 will soon be history – and what a historical year it has been for Barca with the six titles, Champions, Spanish League, Spanish Cup, Spanish and European Super Cups and the World Club Cup, all conquered. It’s all been won, but now it’s all to be won again!

New year- new objectives

One thing Guardiola’s team have shown over the last 12 months is ambition – they always look to score more, to win against whoever and playing wherever and that’s part of the reason they have gained the admiration and respect of the whole footballing world - things they are determined to keep over the next 12 months as they face new challenges ahead.

Champions League final in Bernabeu

WEB_08.jpgThe main objective has to be the Champions, for three clear reasons: firstly, the title is accepted as the most sought after in European football, secondly, a win would make Barca the first team to retain the trophy and thirdly, because to win the final in the Berbabeu, home to arch rivals Real Madrid, would be a very special treat for the Barca faithful.

King of Cups

FC Barcelona became the leading Cup winner when they beat Bilbao to take their 24th title in 1998 and go one better than the Basque’s 23. Last year’s 4-1 win in the same stadium and against the same opponents gave them their 25th. With the team through to the last 16, Guardiola will be looking to add another Cup to the club’s history.

Bread and butter

MGL3.jpgThe do or die spirit of a cup tie is one thing, but the bread and butter of the season is the League and Barca go into the New Year clear at the top of La Liga. Even so, the team know that to take the 20th league title of the club’s history, they will have to show the same concentration, determination and commitment over the next few months that saw them lift the title last season.
All won, all to be won again
Work, work, work…
The key to success as far as Josep Guardiola is concerned is simple: “we’ll continue to be successful if we work hard. That’s the only thing we can plan to do. We might experience a bit of a dip now, but we’ll try and make sure that doesn’t happen. We’ve got a big enough and a good enough squad to do that. What’s brought us to the point we are at now is just hard work, that’s what will keep us at the top. We’ve already got all the talent in the squad, now we just have to knuckle down and work, that’s all we have to do”.
