Laporta: “this is a successful tour”
David Saura (enviat especial)
There are still a few days to go on the US Tour, but President Joan Laporta is already well pleased with the team’s performances and the image the club are projecting.
The President explained: “this is a successful and beneficial tour in which Barca’s
image has been acknowledged and appreciated and our style of play and our players’ quality
have been widely praised”.
The President’s satisfaction increased
after the Seattle game: “we have given a really good account of ourselves, especially in
Seattle, where we played great football and showed great control. The team looked very solid
”.
Messi happy
As to a possible improvement in Messi’s contract, Sr Laporta insisted: “the most
important thing is the commitment and the respect both parties share”, following his
conversations with the player’s father.
Messi’s good performance against Seattle is excellent news for Sr Laporta who
commented: “every time he plays he shows that he’s the bets player in the world. And
most importantly, he’s happy. He generates a lot of expectation, he’s a showman and can
turn a game – I love watching him”.
Strengthening the defence
Following Marquez’s injury Guardiola commented that he would like to sign another central
defender and President Laporta explained: “if that’s what the manager says, then
we’ll do it. We’ll try and sort it out and resolve the problem”.
Sr Laporta however, refused to be drawn on the chances of signing Arsenal’s Cesc
Fabregas, insisting: “if we need midfielders, it’s the technical secretary’s job
to come up with names, not mine”.
