After the game with Chivas, the FC Barcelona players spoke about the sudden death of Dani Jarque and joined the RCD Espanyol family in their mourning.
By wearing black armbands and putting their arms around each other to respect a minute’s
silence, the players had wished to do their bit to honour the death of Dani Jarque.
Bojan Krkic, on leaving the dressing rooms, said “we are all very affected and will
continue to be” in reference to the way the players felt before and after playing their last
game in the USA. “He was a colleague and I feel very bad about it … I want to give all
of his family my sympathy”.
In reference to the way the tour has gone on a personal level, he said “it has gone
very well for me and I scored today. It is important to get into the rhythm of things”.
The Barça players spoke to the media after the game, although most of their words were in
remembrance of the late Dani Jarque:
Carles Puyol
“It is a sad day for us and football”.
“We send our support to his family and colleagues. I have spoken to some, like Ivan (De
la Peña), and they are very upset”.
“We will support his family and colleagues. It has been a very tough shock”.
Gerard Piqué
“It was a nasty shock, a shock for the whole team. We hope his family and the players
are able to deal with this as soon as possible”.
“The team’s getting better, we’re finding our form. We couldn’t win
today, but we are ready for the official fixtures”.
“We are all feeling enthusiastic and looking forward to winning the first title”.
