Unbeaten record equalled
David Puig
FC Barcelona's win against Real Betis on Wednesday evening took their run to 27 matches without defeat and that equalled the club record held by the side in the 1973/74 campaign.
Pep Guardiola's side have already broken many records and another was equalled in midweek thanks to
the 5-0 first leg win against Betis in the cup quarter final. The current Blaugrana stars have not
been beaten since day two of the league campaign, when they went down 0-2 at home to Hércules, in
any competition. It was a record that had been held since 1973/74 when Rinus Michels side also went
27 games without defeat.
15 wins
The
run of form by Barça has been incredible since they were beaten so early on in the season and only
a draw against Real Mallorca in Camp Nou on day six prevented them from winning every league game
since then. On their travels the Blaugrana have been unstoppable as they have won all nine games in
la Primera away from home.
Of the 16 games that they have not lost in the league their have been three 5-0 wins at home,
against Sevilla, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad, a 1-5 away win at Espanyol and an 0-8 triumph over
Almería, the club's biggest ever away win.
Euro record
Barça
finished their Champions League group without losing and was only one of three teams to do so,
along with Real Madrid and Manchester United. The Blaugrana beat Panathinaikos home and away and
defeated Copenhagen and Rubin Kazan in Camp Nou and drew with them both away.
The Athletic of Bilbao complicated the Cup
The
Blaugrana’s invincinbility has also been maintained in the Copa del Rey but Athletic Club de
Bilbao did not make things easy in the last 16 as they held Guardiola's side to a goalless draw in
Camp Nou before losing out on away goals after a 1-1 draw in San Mamés.
The 1970’s
Under Michels the team in 1973/74 contained Johan Cruyff and they went 27 matches without
tasting defeat as well before they were beaten 3-0 by Nice in the UEFA Cup. In the league their run
lasted from day six until day 32 when they were beaten by Atlético de Madrid, 2-0.
