David Villa has received his award as the third best player of last summer’s World Cup, as well as the second prize for a goal scorer at the competition.
The Spain and Barça striker was one of the big success stories at the 2010 World Cup, getting a
winners medal and being chosen as the third best player of the tournament in which he ended as the
joint highest goal scorer. Villa received the awards at the Spanish Federation installations in Las
Rozas this morning.
Voted number three
The journalists who were officially covering the World Cup voted the Uruguayan Diego Forlán
as the best player in the competition with 23,4 % of the votes, followed by Holland’s Wesley
Sneijder (21,8 %)
and then
David Villa (16,9 %). Barça players Xavi, Iniesta and Messi all finished in the Top Ten.
Four tied for top scorer
David Villa scored five goals in the finals, the same number as the German Thomas Müller,
Wesley Snejder and Diego Forlán. The goal scoring award went to Müller because he also had three
assists and although Villa, Sneijder and Forlan all had one assist each, the Barça man won second
spot because he needed fewer minutes to score his five goals than the other two.
