Lionel Messi moved up the club’s all-time goalscoring charts, David Villa score don his debut and Andrés Iniesta was given a standing ovation by the opposition supporters.
FC Barcelona’s win in El Sardinero on Sunday evening saw many facts and curiosities thrown up
with three points to kick off the season being the most important. Behind the triumph though there
were records broken and a first for two other stars.
Below are some of the facts and figures from the 0-3 win:
►Lionel Messi has moved ahead of Rivaldo and Samuel Eto’o
in the club’s goalscoring charts and he is now seventh with 131 official goals after his
effort against Racing. Alcántara is ahead of him with 137 and Arocha with 134
►Including the tail end of last season Messi has now scored in his last five
consecutive league matches for Barça after netting against Villarreal, Tenerife, Sevilla, Real
Valladolid and Racing.
►Messi enjoys playing in El Sardinero as he has now scored five goals there, while
Villa’s goal was his 250th as a professional and his first for Barça.
►Iniesta started the season with a goal and by netting against Racing he equalled his
total of just one from last term.
►Víctor Valdés earned headlines with his penalty save from Tchité. It was his first
spot-kick save since he did the same against Real Betis on March 29, 2008.
