Javier Mascherano has passed his medical at FC Barcelona on Monday and will now put pen-to-paper on his contract at Camp Nou at 18:00 to complete a move from Liverpool.
The day started early for the Argentinian midfielder as he arrived at the Hospital de Barcelona at
07.55 ahead of the first medical tests required to make him a Blaugrana player. The first exams
consisted of blood and urine tests and series of X-rays.
Four hours later and Mascherano travelled the short distance to Camp Nou where he underwent
more tests at the hands of the club’s Servicios Médicos. Here the player saw his strength and
overall fitness and form.
Excellent condition
Barça’s first-team doctor Ricard Pruna then spoke to Barça TV about the player’s
fitness. “It was an exhaustive medical that lasted around five hours,” he explained. He
is in excellent condition and is physically great.”
No risk
Pruna then made assurances about Mascherano’s proneness to injury. “His
cardiovascular level is perfect and he is a player who has had very few injuries,” he added.
“In the last five years he has suffered one injury that has left him with problems.”
