Bojan: "Wednesday’s game is key"
Anna Segura
Many fans may have their eyes firmly fixed on next Monday, but Bojan insisted that the players are first and foremost focussed on Wednesday’s Champions League game, insisting: “they’ll make it hard for us and we are playing for top spot in the group”
A result on Wednesday would confirm qualification for the next round of the Champions League and
although the media concentrated in the press room at the Ciudad Deportiva this lunchtime were keen
to talk about the Madrid game, Bojan reminded them that first the team have a big European match to
get through: “Wednesday is a key game for us. The Madrid game will come around soon
enough”.
Panathinaikos
The Greeks may be bottom of Group D, but the Barça players are well
aware that they have a tough game ahead of them: “they are a hard team and they’ll make
it hard for us. We are playing for the top spot in the group”, according to Bojan, who also
insisted that he certainly didn’t mind a tough game just before facing Madrid.
Confidence booster
Bojan’s two goals against Almeria on Saturday were his first of
the league season and he agreed “it always helps your confidence to get off the mark. It was
a bit of a liberation for me and it gave me a real boost of confidence and calmed my nerves”.
"We want the three points"
Inevitably though, the media wanted more answers about the Madrid game
and Bojan insisted that the players try to isolate themselves from all the pre-match coverage:
“the important thing isn’t what is said, it’s getting the points and what happens
on the pitch on Monday –we want the three points. The points against Madrid are important,
but last season we took all six points and ended up winning the league by just one point, so you
can see that in La Liga, any team can take points off you”.
