Summer signings records against Madrid
Anna Segura
Barça’s summer signings Villa, Adriano and Mascherano could all make their Barça-Madrid debuts on Monday, though between the three of them, they’ve faced Madrid nearly 30 times with their previous clubs.
There’ll be quite a number of old hands at derby matches in Barça’s line up on Monday,
but there could also be three players who have never faced Real Madrid in a Barça shirt before, the
three signing Guardiola made this summer: Villa, Adriano and Mascherano.
It’s not that the three have no experience against Madrid though, as they have all
faced Real with their previous teams.
Villa’s 16 games
David Villa is the new signing who has most experience against Real Madrid, having
faced them 16 times in La Liga and the Spanish Cup and Super Cup. His first game against them was
with Zaragoza in the 2003/04 league season and a few months later he scored his first goal against
them, a penalty, in the Cup final at Montjuic.
Last goal a year ago
In the 16 games he played against Madrid, Villa scored seven times, twice with
Zaragoza and five times for Valencia. His last goal came in December 2009 when his strike
wasn’t enough to stop Valencia losing 2-3.
Mascherano 100% winner
Javier Mascherano has never faced Madrid in domestic competition, but
with Liverpool he was part of the team that knocked them out of the Champions League in 2008/09
with a 0-1 win in the Spanish capital and a 4-0 thrashing at Anfield.
10 games and a goal for Adriano
During his five years at Seville, Adriano played against Madrid 10 times, coming out
a winner on five occasions, with four defeats and a draw. In the 3-4 win at Bernabeu in the 2008/09
season, Adriano scored the first of the visitors’ goals. His stats might have looked even
better had he not been forced to miss 2007 Super Cup two legged final in 2007 when Seville beat
Real Madrid.
