Pep’s record run of 20 unbeaten games
Marc Guillén
Incredible as it might seem, Pep Guardiola will beat his own record from the treble winning season of 20 consecutive games unbeaten, if the team beat Real Sociedad this weekend.
Hercules surprised everyone with their 0-2 win over Barça in the second week, but since then the
team have not lost any of the following matches, winning 17 and drawing three.
Treble winning season
Guardiola started his league career as boss with a defeat in Numancia and in the
second game his team drew with Racing. Not perhaps the best of starts, but there then followed a
run of 20 unbeaten games, just one of the records set in that historic treble winning campaign.
The team have maintained that high level over the last two years, but not until now have they
put in an equally effective run of results - last year for example, the team could
“only” run up 16 consecutive games without a defeat.
8 win run
The winning run is also impressive, with all eight games since the draw in Copenhagen ending
in Barça’s favour – equalling their best run of last season and just three behind
Guardiola’s 11 run winning streak in his first season.
