Facts and figures of the Espanyol win
Jordi Clos
No team had ever scored five at the Cornellà-El Prat Stadium until Barça turned over Espanyol last night. Here are some of the facts and figures from that historic win:
- The win was Barça’s biggest in the history of the fixture, beating the 0-4 wins from
1981/82 and 1991/92.
- Guardiola’s team have extended their already record start as the away team and have
now run up eight wins out of eight on the road.
- The win was Barça’s tenth on the run in the league and their tenth consecutive win in
all competitions.
- Since the defeat to Hercules, Barça have gone 22 games unbeaten, the best run of the
Guardiola era.
- Barça have put five past six teams so far this season: Panathinaikos,
Seville, Ceuta, Madrid, Real Sociedad and Espanyol, whilst also scoring eight against Almeria.
- Víctor Valdés beat his own record and reached 576 minutes without conceding a goal.
- Over the last five games, Barça have scored 31 goals and conceded just 1.
- The team’s current goal difference is 42 - 51 goals scored and 9 conceded.
- Espanyol had 7 shots, compared with Barça’s 18 attempts.
- Piqué’s yellow card for handball on 53 minutes means he misses the next league game
against Llevant.
- Busquets and Abidal were the players who won most possession, with 12 tackles each.
- With 111 interventions, Xavi was again the player who was most involved in the game.
