Pep Guardiola’s Barça may not have equalled their start in the 2009-10 season, when they won their first three games, but they have scored more goals than ever before under Pep, with 15 scored and just two conceded.
The two big wins at the Camp Nou -against Villarreal and Osasuna- have helped the team to set a new
scoring record over the first three games of a season and 15 in three matches will be a tough stat
to ever match.
Six goals at Molinon
Guardiola’s first season, 2008-09, saw a tough start with just a
single goal in the first two games – a penalty from Messi against Racing Santander at the
Camp Nou, but the third saw a 1-6 win over Sporting that made it 7-3 over the first three games,
one win, one defeat and one draw.
Best year till now
The second season was until now the best start in terms of goals scored, with a 3-0 win over
Sporting and a 5-2 victory against Atletico Madrid at home and a 0-2 win in Getafe. That meant the
leadership with nine points from nine and ten goals scored and just two conceded.
Poorest start...
Last season in contrast, saw five goals, which were all on the road –against Racing and
Atletico and conceded three, one at the Vicente Calderon and two in the defeat to Hercules at the
Camp Nou. After three games they had amassed six points from the nine in play.
Average of five goals a game
This season has seen an improvement in points on Guardiola’s first and third seasons
and a record number of goals scored, after the five against Villarreal, two in Anoeta and eight
against Osasuna on Saturday, whilst Valdes has been beaten just twice – both at Real
Sociedad.
