In a crazy game of football, Luis Enrique’s team put an end to their two game run of away
defeats with six goals against Numancia that take them up to 38 points in the Segunda A, safely in
the top half and 13 points clear of the relegation places.
Open game
The game against ex-Barça man Juan Carlos Unzué’s Numancia was a constant to
and fro between the teams as in a thoroughly open match, all 22 players seemed to be committed to
taking the ball and attacking. The ten goals were a fair reflection of the open nature of the game
and both teams commitment to go forward.
Half an hour of peace and quiet !
The first goal actually took more than half an hour to come, with Jonathan Soriano
opening the scoring on 32 minutes, heading in a Dos Santos free kick, but Numancia hit back soon
after with a Nagore stike before the hosts went 2-1 up thanks to a Cedric goal at the start of the
second half . That was to be the first and last time they led the game though, as the flood of
second half goals began.
Soriano gets his hat trick
That second Numancia goal seemed to spur Barça to attack even more and Soriano got
his hat trick with two quick strikes either side of the hour mark, before Íñigo Vélez made it 3-3
on 72 minutes.
Espinosa scores on debut
Youth Team player Javi Espinosa made his debut at this level after coming on for
Dalmau at the break and he settled into the midfield alongside Fontàs and Sergi Roberto, as well as
putting Barça ahead again with a goal on 78 minutes, only for Barkero to once more draw the teams
level with an 87th minute penalty given against the Barça B keeper Oier Olazábal (4-4).
Breathtaking finale
Then in a breathtaking finale, Benja made it 4-5 and Edu Oriol took advantage of a
quick free kick in injury time to make it a half dozen.
Next game on Tuesday
The team are back in Barcelona for their next game, on Tuesday against Cordoba at 20.00,
where they will hope to build on this win and secure the 50 points they had identified as the
minimum needed for survival and begin to climb the table again.
