Barça B won the last Catalan derby of the season, seeing off Girona 0-2 with an own goal and a strike from Benja breaking their run of two games without a win.
After a mini crisis of two games without a win, the B team needed a victory in the final Catalan
derby of the season and they were able to get their game into gear and helped by an early own goal
from Girona’s Tebar, as he mishit his claearence, they came away from the Montilivi stadium
with the three points
Despite that early setback, the hosts never stopped pushing and threatening Masip’s
goal. Chechu had Girona’s best chance on 31 minutes, but his effort hit the woodwork.
Luis Enrique’s team did well to withstand the onslaught from Girona and they themselves
went in search of the killer goal in the second half, which came 9 minutes from the end when top
goal scorer Jonathon Soriano set up Benja to sentence the game.
Youngsters still coming through
Despite playing without Oier, Bartra, Sergi Roberto, Dos Santos, Fontás and Thiago,
who were off with the first team, Luis Enrique put out a convincing side, with Youth Team players
Rafa Alcantara in the first half and Balliu in the second, both putting in excellent performances.
B team draws in the fans
The visit of the B team was a big attraction in Girona, where 9032 fans almost
filled the stadium. The win was a nice revenge for Luis Enrique’s team who earlier in the
season lost 1-2 at the Mini Estadi.
