Granada too much for B team (4-1)
Aida Soriano
Barça B suffered their fourth defeat of the season this afternoon when Granada beat them 4-1. All the hosts’ goals came from Alexandre Geijo, after an early Carmona strike.
Luis Enrique’s team found that Granada, backed by a full home stadium at the Nuevo Los
Cármenes, stifled their game and in Alexandre Geijo the hosts had a striker able to put them to the
sword.
Great start
Barça couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game though, scoring with
their first attack after Dos Santos set up Benja out wide and Carmona, coming from deep met his
cross at the back post after Soriano failed to connect. Granada soon hit back though, with Oier
forced to make two good stops soon after the goal. The hosts were pressuring Barca B all over the
pitch and the youngsters were finding it hard to build any meaningful attacks and their threat was
limited to a 27th minute header from Iñigo López from a free kick.
Comeback starts
Jonathan Dos Santos also came close to making it two after some good work from Nolito, but
his weak shot was easily saved by the Granada keeper and it was the hosts who were to score, when
Geijo headed in from a corner on 35 minutes. The goal gave Granada a great boost and they began to
lay siege to the Barça goal, with a Nolito effort from a breakaway at the end of the half which the
keeper saved, the only opportunity Barça had.
Hat trick
Barça came
out stronger after the break and began to control possession in the Granada half, but Geijo took
advantage of a misunderstanding between Oier and his defence to put his team ahead. Luis Enrique
sent on Tello and Sergi Roberto to create more danger, but Granada now sat back and let Barça come
at them, whilst trying to pick them off on the break, something Geijo managed to take his hat trick
on 68 minutes, just after Carmona had missed a chance to make it 2-2.
Geijo makes it four
Tello, Sergi Roberto and Muniesa all had chances to pull a goal back in the last 20 minutes,
but again Geijo proved more efficient, getting his fourth as he broke through between the two
centre halves on 83 minutes.
The defeat leaves Barça B on 22 points and they are fourth in the table, two points ahead of
Salamanca who play tomorrow and a further two ahead of Granada, who have moved up to sixth.
