The new Barça B
Míriam Nadal
With four new signings, the Barça reserve team is taking shape. Along with the new arrivals, some others players have moved elsewhere.
Goalkeeper Oier Olázabal has joined from Real Unión de Irún. On the right wing is a promising
attacking midfielder called Eneko Fernández. Barça B has two new full backs in David Córcoles on
the right and Víctor Espasandín on the left. These are the four new signings that have been made by
incoming coach Pep Guardiola. It is a big change team to the team, but the idea is to forma Barça B
team of experienced, quality players, which is what they will need to get out of the Third
Division, to which they were relegated this year.
Change of management
But as well as new signings, there have been departures. This is partly because some
players’ contracts have expired or been bought out, leading to a complete change of face in a
team that is no longer to be coached by veteran Quique Costas, but by former Dream Team member
Guardiola.
Conformed changes
Some of the outgoing players will be Andrea Orlandi, who has been loaned to Alavés, local boy
Jordi Gómez, Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogervost, goalkeepers Urko and Montero, and Toni Calvo, who has
been sold to Aris Salonica.
Other players will also be on the way out, for as well the B players that will no longer be
needed, players will be leaving Barça C and the main youth team. On loan until now, Felipe Sanchón,
Manel Expósito and Pitu Comadevall have each severed their links with Barça.
