Great comeback for Barça B in Mataró (1-3)
Jaume Marcet/Roger Bogunyà
Barça B produced an excellent second half performance to overturn a 1-0 first half deficit. The final result was 1-3 in Barça’s favour with goals from Vázquez (2) and Guerra.
It was a hard fought win, especially after going in at the break trailing by a goal to nil. It
could have been very different had the woodwork not frustrated Barça’s ambitions twice in the
first half. However, Pep Guardiola’s players then produced a fine second half performance
– perhaps their best of the season – to clinch a deserved victory, with two goals from
Vázquez and one from Guerra.
Unjust score line
Mataró took the lead after just 20 seconds thanks to a fast break down the wing by Callicó
that was finished off by Mourad. Despite this early setback, the Barça youngsters held their nerve
and with a bit more luck would have scored twice in the next 20 minutes, as first Vázquez and then
Xavi Torres hit the woodwork.
Barça B dominated possession throughout the 45 minutes and stopped Mataró from creating any
more danger.
Second half reaction
After the break, Barça B continued with their own brand of stylish one-touch football and in
just 20 minutes took a deserved lead.
In the first move of the second half, Vázquez hit the net with a well-placed low shot. Ten
minutes later, with Barça playing some of their best football of the season, Guerra made it 1-2
from Rueda’s centre. In the 70th minute, Vázquez volleyed in the third.
This is Barça B’s first away win of the season and leaves them with ten points.
