Settling for a draw (1-1)
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Luis Enrique’s men were unable to take three points from Orihuela and had to settle for a draw, despite having taken the lead.
The start of the first half began with no team dominating play. A dangerous-looking attack from
Orihuela was saved by Oier, and from then on Barça looked stronger in attack. Pedro had two good
chances, one clipping the post and another saved by Ricardo.
More possession
From these two moves, Barça started playing more smoothly with more possession. The first
half finished 0-0, despite Orihuela’s attempts at surprising Barça with counter-attacks.
Great goal
The second half began again without either team dominating, but then in the 55th minute Goran
Maric scored from a powerful free-kick just outside the area.
Barça’s relief was short-lived, as just a minute later the referee whistled a penalty
and sent Rueda off for an alleged foul against ex-Barça player Cirio. Unfortunately for Barça, Oier
was unable to save the spot kick.
When everything seemed decided, the referee whistled another penalty just three minutes from
time, this time with Fontàs getting a booking. Fortunately for Barça, Orihuela’s leading
scorer Ivan Espada shot the penalty wide.
Fifth consecutive draw
Both teams took a point from the match, and Luis Enrique’s team had their fifth
consecutive draw, with their last win being 3-0 at home against Terrassa.
