A deceptive defeat (1-0)
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Barça Atlètic conceded an early goal away to Denia and despite controlling most of the game could not find a way through the packed local defence.
Barça Atlètic will go into next weekend’s match against the league leaders with a 12-point
deficit. The defeat against Denia combined with Sant Andreu’s victory against Badalona (2-1)
means that the Barça reserves are now third with 47 points, a point behind Benidorm in second
place.
Early goal
Denia took the lead after just six minutes through Borja but Barça Atlètic could
have grabbed an early equalizer when Soriano was judged to have handled the ball into the net.
Barça react
The opening quarter of an hour belonged to Denia but Barça Atlètic gradually took
control and only some fine saves from local keeper Vidal stopped Nolito, Sergi Roberto and Elvis
from equalizing.
Tricky second half
Manager Luis Enrique brought on Thiago and Jonathan in the second half but the home
team defended well and denied the visitors space to develop their football.
Barça Atlètic’s best chance of the match fell to Marc Bartra but it just wasn’t
Barça Atlètic’s day.
The Denia players took every opportunity to waste time and the referee played no fewer than
seven minutes of extra time.
