Reserves look to extend unbeaten run
Jaume Marcet
Barca Atletic are on an unbeaten run stretching back to13th March when they lost to Sporting Maonès in the Miniestadi (1-2). Another good result on Sunday will clinch promotion to Second Division A.
Barca Atletic won the first leg of their promotion playoff 1-0 at home to local rivals Sant Andreu
and need to finish off the job on Sunday with a positive result in the Narcis Sala stadium. An
analysis of their away results this season invites optimism.
Finishing on a high
The reserve team, managed by former Barca star Luis Enrique, has lost
just six of the 43 competitive matches played this season. Since the last defeat against Sporting
Maonès Barca Atletic have accumulated 8 wins and 6 draws to take them to within a whisker of
promotion to the second level of Spanish league football. During this period they have scored 22
goals and conceded 10.
Odds in Barca’s favour
All the signs are good. Of the 21 away scores so far this season, only one of them would deny
Barca Atletic their ticket to promotion, while a repeat of the 1-0 defeats away to Mallorca and
Denia would send the match to extra time.
Sant Andreu
In contrast,, Sant Andreu will need to pull out all the stops to claim
promotion – of the 21 competitive home matches this season, only seven of the results would
be good enough to take them up, while a repeat of the two 1-0 home victories would send the game to
extra time.
