Two points dropped (1-1)
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Barça Atlètic have gone three games unbeaten but failed to get the three points against Alcoià, a side that showed plenty of quality.
Alcoià opened the scoring through Víctor Curto after a second minute defensive mix-up. He found
himself unmarked from a cross in from the left, and Barça Atlètic were a goal down.
Barça reaction
Barça B reacted after seven minutes when Jonathan Do Santos’ free kick was
almost turned in by Nolito.
The equaliser came in the 9th minute after Edu Oriol shot from long
range, when Elvis was there to lap up the rebound off keeper Maestro.
Back on level terms, Barça Atlètic started taking control of the game with numerous attacking
plays, especially one where Montoya’s 21st minute strike brought out the best in the Alcoia
keeper.
Second half
Alcoià cam to life in the second half, and almost scored off a Curto corner. Barça Atlètic
seemed to lack concentration, and it was often only thanks to Fontàs that the Valencian outfit
didn’t go back into the lead.
Alcoià defend
But as Barça gradually started finding their touch again, Alcoià went
down to ten men when Carpio was sent off for protesting. Following that incident, they decided to
spend the last half hour defending the draw.
Gai came on as sub to increase the plays down the wings, but the Israeli and his colleagues
alike seemed over intent on individual moves rather than collective effort, and despite absolute
dominance, failed to get the all-important second goal. And despite renouncing the attack, Alcoià
did get the occasional break and almost sneaked a winner when Ufarte’s effort hit the post.
