Important away point (2-2)
FC Barcelona Senseit picked up a draw from their tricky away trip to Caja Segovia, the fifth placed team in the Spanish top flight. This point has helped Barça move a little bit further away from relegation trouble.
This Saturday’s Barça was a very different one to that which we saw at the Palau Blaugrana
last week. They bounced back from the setback against Polaris World Cartagena by drawing away to
Caja Segovia (2-2) in a game they could even have won. Marc Carmona’s side went 2-0 up but
failed to sentence affairs and allowed the home side to come back into the match with two late
goals. But the draw still provided a useful point, coupled with the fact that direct rivals like
Celta, Cestesa and Martorell also failed to pick up wins, which bolster’s Barça’s
chances of avoiding the drop.
Barça dominate first half
FC Barcelona Senseit came onto the Caja Segovia court with clear ideas, knowing
every game is going to be uphill struggle from now on. And there was the added motivation of making
up for the disappointment against Polaris World Cartagena in the previous match. Their early
dominance bore fruit with a goal from Juan Carlos López in the 11th minute, and that made the
visitor’s more confident than ever. Barça were perfectly deployed on the pitch, while Caja
Segovia simply could not find a way through their rock solid defence, and the half ended with Barça
leading by the only goal.
Late comeback
More of the same was to come in the second half, and Barcelona soon went two up thanks to a
spectacular left-footed drive from Dani Fernández in the 22nd minute. What’s more, Barça went
on to have plenty of chances to settle affairs with a third goal, especially in a powerful counter
attack created by Manolín and Javi Rodríguez. But instead, Caja Segovia were let off the hook and
bounced back to snatch a draw. In the 27th minute, Tobe pulled one back, not without a dose of luck
as he finished off a curious move in which several shots rebounded off the Barça keeper Arjona and
his defence. And two minutes from the end, just after what looked like a certain foul on Fran
Serrano was not given, Caja Segovia conjured up another goal on the counter to establish the
definitive 2-2 draw.
It was a useful point all the same, but FC Barcelona were left to rue over what could have
been an even better haul.
