Much the better team (4-0)
Cristina Collado
Barça Mobicat beat Playas de Castelló 4-0 in their return to league action with two goals from Igor and a marked improvement in their attacking play.
With just seven more games left in the league, and only three of those at home, this was a big win
for Barca, who not only maintained their second position, but also cut the distance between them
and Inter Movistar who went down at Caja Segovia.
Igor off the mark early on
The game couldn’t have started better for Barca as Igor struck
after just 27 seconds to notch up his first goal in the league in front of the home fans after
opening his account in Granada. To make things even better Igor then bagged a second four minutes
later volleying home a pass from Chico.
Three up at half time
Barca dominated the rest of the half, maintaining their good defence and really upping things
in attack and Saad Assís and PC both had chances to stretch the lead even further. Rafael was
Playas Castelló’s best player, but Paco Sedano looked solid in goal and dealt with any threat
the visitors could pose. Juan Carlos López made it three before half time rounding of a good team
move putting away a PC cross at the far post.
Defence stands firm
The rhythm of the game dropped off a little in the second half, though
with Rafael player as last man keeper, Castelló were able to pressure the Barca area. Again the
home team’s defence stood firm and keeper Paco Sedano came close to scoring himself as Rafael
left his goal empty.
Captain finishes it off
With the visitor’s keeper back in place Marc Carmona brought on Rafa Muñoz and the
Catalan came close with two chances, inclusing a delicate lob that beat the keeper, but just went
over the bar. Finally, Javi Rodríguez put the game to bed latching onto a Jordi Sánchez assist
after the Castello keeper could only present the ball at his feet as he tried to stop a Carlos
Muñoz scorcher. Castelló again put on Rafael as keeper/last man, but it was to no avail as Barca
Mobicat wound down the game to take the points and consolidate their second spot.
