FC Barcelona came from two goals down to earn a valuable draw in their first game of the 2008-09 campaign against Benicarló. Fernandao scored both of the Blaugrana's goals to win a point.
The Brazilian centre forward was called up to the national team squad this week and was able to
celebrate in some style with a brace in Barça's opening game. Deives and Lolo had put Benicarló in
control before Fernandao scored in the 38th and 39th minutes.
Debuts for Sánchez and Saad
Barça were also able to give new signings Jordi Sánchez and Saad their official debuts and
they performed well with the latter becoming one of three players, along with Fernandao and Javi
Rodríguez, to earn a yellow card in the match.
In the game itself, Barça were surprised early on when Deives scored an early goal after the
defence took their eye off the ball and allowed him through. The second came shortly after the
second half kicked off and it then appeared that Barça would not take anything from the encounter.
That was until Fernandao scored twice in as many minutes to earn the Blaugrana a share of the
spoils.
