Marc Carmona’s side was way too strong for the team from Guadalajara and had already won the
game with five goals in the first seven minutes. Some may have questioned whether the players would
be able to refocus after winning the cup title, but they clearly could.
Strong champion
Before the game started, there were photos, a lap of honour and plenty
of celebrations of the futsal team’s historic cup victory. A healthy crowd of over 2,000 came
to the Palau to enjoy the party, which was continued into the game, in which FCB displayed all of
their finest virtues.
Barça Alusport were quite simply astounding and Gestesa never recovered from the shock of
conceding a goal before the game was barely under way. Barça were simply stronger, more tactically
aware, and had the kind of individual flair that their visitors were sadly lacking. They were able
to play with ease, and once the floodgates had opened, the fiesta was transferred to the stands,
where the fans even produced a Mexican wave.
All over early doors
Chico added the second goal, and then Torras and Javi Rodríguez added
two more in less than a minute. At 4-0, Carmona, who was missing Lin and Carlos through injury,
sent on youth players Sepe, Eric Martel and Verdejo, all of whom played like veterans, although
none of them scored. The first half ended with an almost embarrassing scoreline of 7-0. The sixth
in particular was a true work of art, with the whole team combining and Javi Rodríguez completing
the move with a spectacular finish.
Gestesa, with Chino and Japanese import Kensuke being the only players to make any kind of
impression, spent the second half defending as tightly as possible to do their best to keep the
score respectable, but to little avail, for the second half had barely started before Barcelona
were winning 8-0.
Biggest win
Brazilians Wilde and Fernandao added two more to make the final result 10-0, and
round off the biggest Barça win ever in the top flight. The final minutes of the game were a mere
formality, and just as important as the goal-fest is the fact that Barça Alusport are still looking
down from the summit of the league table
