FC Barcelona Alusport kept their place on top of the league table as they produced a confident performance to defeat lowly Reale Cartagena on Friday and stretch their run of consecutive victories to seven games.
The final score was convincing but the Blaugrana did not have everything their own way as the visitors kept themselves in touch until midway through the second half and caused the hosts' defence more problems than many teams have done in recent weeks.
It took 15 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, but that was only
after Barça keeper Cristian brought the crowd to its feet with a triple save to deny Cartagena.
When the opener came it was for the home team as Jordi Torras netted a superb effort, but there was
barely time to kick off before the scores were level as Fabián netted for Cartagena.
Shooting boots
Igor then found his shooting boots as he netted a brace within two minutes as goals in the 16th and 17th minutes pushed Barça clear, but again it was a short-lived time to relax as Fabián found the target 60 seconds later.
Early in the second half the two-goal advantage was restored when Torras again beat Fabio and the result appeared to be beyond doubt when Chico added a fifth for Barça. But once more Cartagena fought back and Mesías effort meant that there were still some nerves before a late effort from Wilde secured the points for the home team.
