Manolo Cadenas is relieved
www.fcbarcelona.cat
FC Barcelona has decided to relieve Manolo Cadenas of his post as coach of Barça Borges. His replacement will be his assistant, Xavi Pascual.
Manolo Cadenas was told last January that the club would use the clause in his contract allowing
them not to extend his contract into the 2009-10 season. This Sunday he was told that he was being
relieved as coach for the rest of the 2008-09 season.
Xavi Pascual, hitherto assistant coach, will take over until the end of the season.
Today Monday at 1 pm section director Jaume Ferrer, technical secretary Enric Masip and Xavi
Pascual will speak to the media at the Palau arena.
Two titles with Barça
Cadenas came to Barcelona in the 2007/08 season, and immediately won the first title on offer
in the shape of the Pyrenees League.
However, it was the only title he won in his first season as coach.
He began 2008/09 well too, winning the Spanish Super Cup by beating Ciudad Real in the final
at Albacete.
Barça background
Xavier Pascual joined Barça as goalkeeping coach in 2005. Since then he has been on
the first team coaching staff. He was a key figure for Manolo Cadenas, firstly as goalkeeping coach
and then this season as assistant coach.
He started out in handball at Voramar School, but soon joined the Barça academy with which he
won the European Cup in 1990/91. He also played as third choice keeper for the FC Barcelona team.
After a sporting career in Galicia (Teucro, Chapela and Academia Octavio Pilotes Posada)
followed by Guadalajara, Leon and Gàldar, Xavier Pascual came back to Barça where he has remained
ever since.
