The champion sets the pace (5-1)

Carles Cascante

Barça Sorli Discau have got off to a fine start in the OK Liga final, putting five past Reus when if anything they deserved to score even more. Borregán, with three goals, was the star of the show.

The first game in the OK Liga final saw FC Barcelona Sorli Discau stun Reus with some lively, offensive and effective roller hockey. A Gual penalty that made it 2-1 did generate a certain insecurity at the Palau, but the omnipresent Borregán was soon at hand to make it 3-1. Reus were hell-bent on a comeback after the break, but Barça contained the pressure in a game marked by a number of missed penalties and direct free hits, and eventually rolled in easy winners at 5-1.

Magnificent opening

qm3d8446.JPGBarça flew at the opposition right from the start, and in an almost perfect move, Sergi Panadero skilfully put Quim Paüls’ side a goal ahead. Thirty seconds later, before Reus even knew what had hit them, Alberto Borregán finished off a powerful counter attack led by David Páez to make it 2-0.

First of many penalties

The game saw four penalties in all (3 for Barça and 1 for Reus) and two direct free hits per side, but of all those, the only one to result in any change to the scoring was Marc Gual’s fifth minute effort that put Reus back in contention. That was the impetus Manel Barceló’s side needed to begin mounting a comeback, but FC Barcelona Sorli Discau were having none of that, and Alberto Borregán slammed home his second of the night to make it 3-1.

Reus frustrated

qm3d8451.jpgAlnimar Reus Deportiu continued their valiant efforts to get something out of this game after the break, but struggled to maintain any kind of meaningful possession. ‘Negro' Páez was having a first class game, the Argentinian playing cool and composed hockey as he took charge of most of the playmaking. Reus threatened to make it 3-2 with a failed Caldú effort, and then Mia Ordeig was the object of penalty that was subsequently missed by Carlos López.

The referee’s cards started coming out in the final stages of the match. García and Gual were both sin binned, as David Páez had been in the first half. The Argentinian ended up sitting out most of the game before being sent on to finish off the job for the home side after Alberto Borregán had completed his hat trick with Barcelona’s fourth. The 5-1 sets Barça up very nicely indeed for game two down south, which will start at 19.00 next Thursday.
