Dead rubber but still a fine win (8-3)
Carles Cascante / Sònia de Alba
Barça have thrashed Vilanova L’Ull Blau (8-3) in the last game of the regular phase of the European Roller Hockey League. With his team already through to the Final Four, coach Quim Paüls decided to give an outing to some of his younger players.
With Octavi Tarrés in goal and junior player Gerard Vergés in the starting five, the blaugranes
dominated the side trained by Josep Lluís del Riu right from the face-off. Carlitos López opened
the scoring in the 6th minute and 18 seconds later Vergès made it 2-0. Vergès scored again before
the break to leave the score at 5-0 after Miquel Masoliver and Mia Ordeig had already got their
names on the score sheet.
More equal second half
In the second half Vilanova tried to get back into the game with goals from Boira, Ros and
Julivert. But hopes of a revival were short-lived as Barça Sorli Discau racked up three more, with
first Teixidó and then junior player Borja de Ramon finding the net while with 55 seconds left on
the clock Mia Ordeig grabbed his second.
Barça Sorli Discau coach Quim Paüls was pleased with the work done by his younger players and
was even able to give almost eight minutes’ game time to today’s reserve keeper, Jordi
Esteve, who was only beaten once by Julivert with little more than five minutes to go. Already
through to the Final Four, the Catalans will have to play another dead rubber this coming Tuesday
against the same opponents, Vilanova, though this time it will be away from home. The match starts
at 9.30 pm.
